About Me

I was born on July 1, 1944 in the village of Tiszaújlak in Transcarpathia. As far as I can remember, to my childhood years, I see my family integrated with the local community, Polish and Hungarian, which cultivated a common tradition of mutual respect and faith. On September 17, 1939, the Soviets invaded, and our ordered world collapsed. My grandfather Stefan Kubiak was arrested and taken to an unknown place, part of the family was sent to Kazakhstan in cattle cars, while my uncle spent six years in a camp on the Kola Peninsula. The second one enlisted in General Anders' army and fought at Monte Cassino. These events had an impact on my life and my work.

From early boyhood years, I was passionate about sculpture. I also observed the dynamically changing reality. I saw and see evil systematically brought into our lives, the indoctrination of neighbors, which deprives us of pride in our origin. The falsification of history and the erasure of our national identity and common existence. I would like my works to bring moments of reflection for the viewer and remind them of the heroic deeds of the Polish and Hungarian nations, as well as make them aware of the enormity of the suffering inflicted on us. In my wood-carved history, faith accompanies us, without which as a nation we would not have survived, both our Polish and Hungarian Golgotha.
